Huaneng launches 100 5G-A mining trucks in Inner Mongolia
Huaneng Group, one of the five largest state-owned electricity generation enterprises in China, will officially launch 100 Huaneng Ruichi 5G-A autonomous electric mining trucks at the Yimin coal mine this week in Inner Mongolia.

With the move, the operation will become the world’s first open-pit mine leveraging 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology for fully autonomous operations.
Supported by Huawei and other partners, the adoption of the hauling fleet is considered a leap forward in automating China’s mining industry through advanced information and communication technologies.
The initiative pioneers a comprehensive, AI-driven “cloud-network-vehicle-charging” integrated system designed for unmanned mining, achieving end-to-end automation.
Technologies such as autonomous driving, intelligent battery swapping, and smart safety systems, underpinned by the high bandwidth and low latency of 5G-A, are central to this project. These innovations aim to substantially enhance operational safety and efficiency within the demanding environment of Chinese open-pit mines.
